A Pleasure Island Beach. Pleasure Island comprises Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, and Fort Fisher. It's a marketing idea to tie the three communities together as they are very close to one another.
Carolina Beach is a great place for a wedding. It's growing by leaps and bounds, but generally it's not at expensive as Wrightsville Beach, parking is a little better, and folks are a little friendlier. If your planning a wedding on Carolina Beach be sure and check the tides as the beach gets narrow in many places at high tide. Carolina Beach used to be affectionately known as the "Redneck Riviera" but it's grown up quite a bit. It hosts an annual Jazz and Blues festival, they run a carnival all summer long and have weekly fireworks. You can either rent a beach house for a wedding (read the contract carefully, as some do not allow weddings) or you can take advantage of the Courtyard Marriott which offers several event rooms which can handle almost anything. The beach in front of the Marriott is wide and a short distance from the hotel. Kitchen is pretty good too. If you opt for a smaller venue, one of the best kept secrets is the American Legion Hall on the back side of the island. It's recently been redone and it's a pretty nice space for a reception and the price is right. I couldn't find a website for them but the address is 1500 Bridge Barrier Road, Carolina Beach, NC. and the number is (910) 458-4253. If you have a problem contacting them give me a call.
Another interesting spot for a reception is Havana's Restaurant. (Third floor allegedly haunted, no extra charge). An old beach cottage converted into an eatery, They have several options for a small wedding reception. Great food and a great location. Whatever you do I strongly recommend that you keep things on the island. Don't try to get married on Carolina Beach, and then have to take you and all your guests across town for a reception. Traffic is becoming more nuts by the year and rushing to get into town for a reception is a recipe for disaster. Keep it simple, there's always a way to keep it close together.
